Fear of Driving and Bad Thoughts Automatically
Fear of Driving and Bad Thoughts AutomaticallyFear of driving is often complex, if not caused by human
instincts. These thoughts can be frightening and irrational, such as worrying
that they will get into oncoming cars or drive a bridge, or they may focus on
one's anxious feelings such as rapid heartbeat or dizziness. These thoughts are
often described as a very disturbing sign of driving anxiety and can be the
real causes of panic attacks while driving. Controlling these thoughts is
essential for success in eliminating fear of driving.
Thinking Standing.
Sometimes it is advisable for a person who is afraid to
drive diligently to try to stop his negative thoughts. While this is
well-intention and very intended to reduce the frequency of these disturbing
thoughts, this approach is not inherently flawed. Wanting the person to
remember what they are not thinking about ensures that they are already
thinking about it. It’s like telling them not to think about blue bananas. The
first thing they will think of is a blue banana because it is the very act of
remembering that we should not think about it so we need a thought that is
intended to be avoided. Methods of visualizing the sign of standing or
photographing yourself with a rubber band to train the mind without thoughts
are unfortunately a commonly recommended procedure not recommended.
Scheduled anxiety time.
Anxiety time sets aside a specific time each day, usually in
the morning and evening, to allow these thoughts to continue. For example, a
common perception associated with fear of driving is that of being stuck with
inability to escape and losing control. According to this notion, that person
could be forced to light a thought twice a day for the time specified. The
purpose is twofold. First, the thought becomes less powerful as the person begins
to dislike it after repeatedly playing the game mentally. Second, this
technique teaches a person to be able to postpone his or her anxiety until a
certain time, which may eventually allow them to postpone the anxiety
indefinitely.
We have seen moderate success in this way of distant
thoughts or direct fear of driving. For example, if there is a particular
disturbing bridge, but not bridges in general. For fear of all driving, there
are many horrible thoughts of using this method successfully for a long time.
Nor does it encourage acceptance and understanding of the thoughts and fears
that are so important to success.
Visual Views.
Most of those who have the irrational, coercive, and
terrifying thoughts associated with the fear of driving are very intelligent
and talented people. Many of the troubling thoughts they have are not based on
historical or factual evidence (they may have never responded in the way they
feared, yet fear exists), and it is caused by their creative creative thinking.
These skills allow a decent person to play mental situations convincingly and
this in turn helps to perpetuate fear.
The Driving Fear program, specializing
in the treatment of phobias and anxiety has developed a process that uses these
elimination skills instead of advancing disturbing thoughts. It actually allows
the same factors that created fear to eliminate fear.
